Hypodontia

This term describes a situation when some or all of your teeth never grow - also known as developmentally missing teeth

Contact me about hypodontia

This patient has many missing front and back teeth, currently replaced by a denture. The other teeth are odd shapes and not straight.

I replaced the missing teeth with dental implants, whitened the natural teeth and reshaped them with composite boding.

Hypodontia Journey

Hypodontia is usually diagnosed in your early teens by your own local dentist.

This doesn't mean treatment needs carried out immediately, in fact there are significant advantages to delaying certain dental treatments.

However the planning of hypodontia treatment can be extremely complex. It requires your dentist to refer you to a specialsts team (MDT). The team can initially include:

  • brace specialists
  • restorative specialists
  • oral surgery specialists

I have been part of this MDT for over a decade and contribute to hypodontia care for the West of Scotland.

Usually brace treatment and restorative dentistry treatment is combined to produce a comprehensive and bespoke plan, however this plan can take a number of years to complete as is the nature of treating patients while they are still growing.

My teams aim is to balance an aesthetic and functional smile with the minimal long term maintenance and risks to your mouth.
